Effect of a New Compound on the Mitotic Polyploidization of Lilium Longiflorum and Oriental Hybrid Lilies
A new compound, Surflan (Surflan), for mitotic polyploidization in vitro in lily was tested and compared with the original compound ‘oryzalin’. Surflan was effective for mitotic polyploidization of lilies. The optimal concentration of Surflan was 0.0075% for in vitro chromosome doubling. A low concentration (0.0025%) was still effective to produce polyploid plants, however, a high concentration...
متن کاملThe fas operon of Rhodococcus fascians encodes new genes required for efficient fasciation of host plants.
Three virulence loci (fas, att, and hyp) of Rhodococcus fascians D188 have been identified on a 200-kb conjugative linear plasmid (pFiD188). The fas locus was delimited to a 6.5-kb DNA fragment by insertion mutagenesis, single homologous disruptive recombination, and in trans complementation of different avirulent insertion mutants. The locus is arranged as a large operon containing six open re...
متن کاملLocalization of Phosphorus and Cation Reserves in Lilium longiflorum Pollen.
Transmission electron microscopy of pollen from Lilium longiflorum Thunb. reveals electron-dense inclusions in storage body organelles ubiquitous in the cytosol. In ungerminated pollen, these inclusions are rounded in appearance and appressed to the inner surface of the smooth membrane of the storage body. During pollen germination, these inclusions become less rounded, smaller, and enclosed in...
متن کاملEmpowerment of Medical Toxicology in South Korea
In a recent issue of the Asia Pacific Journal of Medical Toxicology (APJMT), the importance of empowering medical toxicology in the Asia Pacific Region has been discussed. In the editorial by Dr. Afshari, it has been stated that national societies of medical toxicology are important infrastructure for the development of medical toxicology, and the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology ...
متن کاملA Calcium-Activated Phytase from Pollen of Lilium longiflorum.
A phytase was isolated and partially purified from the pollen of Lilium longiflorum Thumb. Optimum activity was at pH 8.0. The phytase was activated by Ca(2+) and Sr(2+) but not by the other divalent cations tested. Activity was inhibited by ethylenediaminetetraacetate. The phytase had a temperature optimum of 55 to 60 degrees C and an activation energy of about 12,700 calories/mole. Extraction...
